Better ideas. Here.

"We had a guy come to fix our phone line about a month ago. He was deaf in one ear; so he put the phone to his other ear and heard the static that was screwing up our Broadband. He went outside, and stripped back a plant that had been growing around the telephone cable entry point for the previous fifteen years. That fixed it: we've had a pure, uninterrupted 2Mb connection for the last month.

As he was leaving, I thanked him.

'Pardon?' he said.”

"What's the best name for a console then? I never liked 'Dreamcast' myself, 'Playstation' ain't much cop either and frankly now I'm sat here I can't think of a good one."

"The thing I love about Space Channel 5 is that there are hardly any visual indicators to the stuff. Get the riff, work out your part in it, repeat with the same time. It's lovely.

I don't mind admitting that playing the last part of the last level has me in tears of joy. I'm like that. I cry at the bit where the kids take off on their bikes in ET too."

We lost it when the clock went forward.

We had to make some toast

Work and that.

All of the above. Won't happen again. Promise.

"Hold It!" You're looking at the tit aren't you? Take that how you will.

The Original Spirit needs your help
We're immensely proud of Way of the Rodent. I honestly believe that, over the last couple of years, we have published some of the very best writing on videogames out there. If you're reading this, then I hope and trust that you appreciate this.

This is why WotR is special - why it's important. The articles, the reviews, even the interviews, aren't published as the result of a marketing campaign, or because we've been bribed by some big publisher (although we’re open to offers). Our writers, largely, aren't professionals producing words at the rate of 5p a letter. Our pieces are written for gamers, by gamers, most of whom started out as forum regulars, and are the result of one single, simple, thing - passion for videogames.

We publish reviews of cutting edge gaming experiences alongside misty-eyed reminiscences of days gone by alongside state-of-the-industry rants alongside pictures of Reggie with a dog's cock up his arse. Well, okay, one of those is a lie - the Revolution controller announcement made that last one redundant, but we would have.

But we can't publish what we don't have.

We need your input. We need your writing. We know that our readers are passionate about gaming, we know that you lead lives that are informed by, have been defined by, videogames, and we want to hear your stories.

Don’t be shy, or worried that you’re not good enough, or ashamed of your writing style. We have a team of writers and editors here which will gladly help you to develop your own style, but technical proficiency is of secondary concern to us. We’re more interested in your views, in the Original Spirit.

Submissions are welcome via the forums or by email to chrisahchay@yahoo.com.

This month we focus on new writers, people just like yourselves who, up until a few months ago, may never have considered writing for any publication. We think you'll like the results.

Game On.

Cheers

Chris, Editor - April 2006
